The official WDBS rankings have been updated following the 2024 European Disability Snooker Championships held at the Vidimar Hotel in Albufeira, Portugal earlier this week.
The WDBS ranking system includes individual ranking lists for each of the main classification groups, with players earning points from based upon their finishing position at designated ranking tournaments.
The rankings operate on a rolling two-year basis, with points earned during 2022/23 to be removed during the course of this season. At this revision points earned at the 2024 European Championships were added with no points removed.
There is a new number one in Group 8 after Luke Drennan captured his fourth world ranking title following a 3-2 victory against Colvin O’Brien in Portugal.
The 25-year-old edges ahead of Lewis Knowles in what is a tight four way battle for top spot to become number one for the first time having joined the WDBS Tour in May 2021.
He becomes the fourth player to have achieved the ranking in the deaf classification group, with Shabir Ahmed, Gary L Taylor and Knowles having previously reached the summit.
Elsewhere, the remaining seven groups have seen no change at the top, but a number of players are gaining momentum as we reach the halfway point of the 2024/25 WDBS Tour.
With four straight titles under his belt, England’s Dave Beaumont is closing in on compatriot Tony Southern in the Group 1-2 rankings, with Southern the only remaining player to have enjoyed an unbroken streak at the top of their group since the introduction of the rankings in 2020.
Having been overtaken by David Church in Group 4 following the recent UK Championship, Carl Gibson has closed the gap back to 4,900 points, while in Group 7 Ireland’s Colvin O’Brien is now just 1,400 points behind Mike Gillespie in the race for top spot.
Meanwhile in Groups 3, 5 and 6B, leaders Kal Mattu, Dave Bolton and Matthew Haslam have all extended their respective advantages following their performances in Portugal.
Ireland’s Aidan Pollitt has gained one place to reach a new best position of third in Group 6A.
