The official WDBS rankings have been updated following the 2024 The Cube UK Disability Snooker Championship at Barratts Snooker Club in Northampton.
The WDBS ranking system includes individual ranking lists for each of the main classification groups, with players earning points from based upon their finishing position at designated ranking tournaments.
The rankings operate on a rolling two-year basis, with points earned during 2022/23 to be removed during the course of this season. At this revision points earned at the 2024 The Cube UK Disability Championship were added with points from the 2022 Stockport Open removed.
There are three new world numbers ones following the second ranking event of the 2024/25 season, including two players who have reached the summit of their classification group for the very first time!
In Group 6B, 19-year-old Matthew Haslam has ended a previously unbroken streak at the top for Leroy Williams which had stretched all the way back to the formation of the WDBS world rankings in April 2020.
Haslam lifted his third title of the year in Northampton, notably overcoming Williams 2-1 at the semi-final stage, to open up a 3,500 point lead at the top.
He is joined by Group 4’s David Church, who has also claimed top spot in the world ranking list for the first time by winning the title last weekend.
Church was in impressive form throughout the event, not dropping a single frame and he secured back-to-back titles with a 3-0 win the final against previous world number one Carl Gibson.
Lewis Knowles has also returned to the top spot in Group 8 despite falling at the quarter-final stages in Northampton. In one of the tightest races for top spot in WDBS history, just 2,500 points currently separate Knowles from Gary Taylor in fourth spot.
Colvin O’Brien, Kristof De Bruyn and Daniel Kelly have all earned new career-high ranking positions after winning the UK crown last weekend.
Ireland’s O’Brien and Belgium’s De Bruyn both move up to second place after securing the Group 7 and 8 titles respectively, while another Irishman Daniel Kelly moves up to third place in Group 3 after picking up his third WDBS ranking event title.
After finishing as the runner-up in Group 6B final, Ryan Pinnington moves up one place to sixth, while semi-final runs for both Aidan Pollitt in Group 6A and Dave Waller in Group 5 see them move up to fourth and fifth positions in their respective groups.
Five world number ones have managed to hold on to their place, despite only two of them taking the title home after last weekend’s event at the Barratts Snooker Club.
An eighth consecutive WDBS title for the dominant Dave Bolton has seen him increase his lead at the summit of Group 5 to 12,800 points. Meanwhile, Alan Reynolds also secured glory in Northampton but has seen his lead over fellow finalist Mohammed Faisal Butt drop to just 3,200 as a result of points dropping off from two years ago.
Tony Southern is now the only player with an unbroken run at the top of the world rankings since they began in 2020, but a third consecutive ranking title for Dave Beaumont sees him close the gap to 12,800 points.
Elsewhere, runs to the final for Kal Mattu and Mike Gillespie mean they remain at the top of the pile in Group 4 and Group 7.
