Bio

Tony Southern is one of the world’s top ranked wheelchair snooker players and made history in December 2023 as one of five gold medalists at the sport’s inaugural appearance at the World Abilitysport Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

An accomplished cueist since a young age, Southern won the first of 24 national disabled championships in 1985 at the age of 16.

His first appearance in a WDBS event showed immediate signs of promise as he reached the final of the 2017 Manchester Classic, dramatically losing out in the final to Craig Welsh in a final frame decider.

Three more ranking event final defeats would follow before Southern finally lifted his maiden WDBS ranking crown at the 2019 Belgian Open with victory against Kurt Deklerck.

Southern, who has cerebral palsy, has gone on to secure a total of seven titles to date, including back-to-back Belgian Open crowns in 2019-2020, the UK Disability Championship in 2019 and most recently the 2024 Champion of Champions crown.
