The 2nd Shanghai Disability Snooker Invitational was formally launched on Saturday in Shanghai with a special welcome banquet at the Steel Convention & Expo Centre.

The event was formally opened by Miss Xue Sasa, Vice Governor of the Baoshan District, alongside key officials from the Shanghai and Baoshan District government and the Shanghai Billiards and Snooker Association.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson also delivered a keynote speech to a field of international players, with the event also visited by multiple world professional champions Stephen Hendry and John Higgins.

Ferguson said: “I am delighted to see this event staged with the support of our key partners in the Shanghai and Baoshan District.

“I would like to thank the great Stephen Hendry and John Higgins – who hold an incredible 11 world championship titles between them – for their attendance which delighted our players and officials earlier today.

“The international field here is a clear demonstration to the International Paralympic Committee of the path snooker is taking to restore snooker to its rightful place at the Paralympic Games as a founding sport.
