WDBS Rankings | Irish Open 2023 Update
The official WDBS rankings have been updated for the first time this season following the conclusion of the Irish Open last weekend.

The WDBS ranking system includes individual ranking lists for each of the main classification groups, with players earning points from based upon their finishing position at designated ranking tournaments.
The rankings operate on a rolling two-year basis, with points earned during 2021/22 to be removed during the course of this season. At this revision no points were removed and those earned at the 2023 Irish Open were added.
No Change at the Top
With no points to be removed at this cut-off – because the 2021/22 season did not start until October 2021 – ranking positions remain relatively static, with no changes to the number one ranking across each of the eight classification groups.
A number of players have nevertheless made significant gains to close the gap at the top, including in Group 8 where an extremely tight four-way battle at the top of the ranking list has seen Ireland runner-up Gary Taylor climb to a new career-high of second position just above Lewis Knowles.
With top ranked Shabir Ahmed set to defend a significant number of points over the next 12 months following his successful 2021/22 season, Taylor, Knowles and rising star Luke Drennan will all be eyeing top spot with strong performances at upcoming events.
In Group 5, Dalton Lawrence rises four places to third position following his second title success of 2023. With Mickey Chambers having dominated the group in recent years, victories for Lawrence in Belgium and Ireland means that he is the only other multiple winner in the group and is therefore well-placed to close the gap to Chambers and Dean Simmons ahead.
There is also a strong new entry in Group 6A with Irish champion Oscar Ellison Gibbons straight in at number six following his debut success in Carlow, while Christopher Goldsworthy closes the points gap to the top two in Group 6B.
Dylan Rees also climbs one position to third in Group 7, following his hard-fought success against Colvin O’Brien on home soil.
