Entries are now open for the 2017 Open Disability Snooker Championship, which for the first time will be staged at the Golden Cue Snooker Club in Bilston, Wolverhampton.
The latest event on the World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) calendar will run from 22-24 September and will be the penultimate event of the year, ahead of November’s Hull Open.
The tournament will be supported by leading WPBSA World Snooker coach Andrew Highfield, who recently told WDBS.info:
“I am really pleased to be supporting the WDBS and looking forward to helping with the coaching on the Friday of the tournament at the Golden Cue in September. The WDBS are doing a great job and everyone at our club is really looking forward to welcoming everyone for a great event.”
Main Tournament
The weekend will be highlighted by a two-day tournament open to players with physical disabilities (WDBS classification groups 1-5).
The tournament will be the first Group 1-5 event since the Manchester Classic back in March, although recent WDBS Welsh Open, our first tournament open to players from all eight classification groups, was won by Group 3 regular Daniel Blunn.
Prize money will be available at the tournament, with a full breakdown and tournament format to be published closer to the event.
Group 6 Tournament
Ahead of the Group 1-5 tournament, there will also be a Friday event held for players with learning disabilities (Group 6), who are also encouraged to attend for practice and coaching even if they do not want to play competitively.
Open Day
Alongside the Group 6 competition, the weekend will begin with a Friday open day, with free practice and coaching available from accredited WPBSA World Snooker coaches.
Players from ALL EIGHT classification groups are encouraged to attend the open day, whether having previously attended an event or visiting for the first time to see what the WDBS is all about.
