World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) has today announced the final format for the main competition at the inaugural Welsh Open this weekend in Cwmbran.
As at previous competitions, the tournament will begin with group stages which will be played on Saturday, ahead of Sunday’s knockout rounds.
The WDBS Welsh Open has accepted a record 45 entries; following a late surge of interest following the recent announcement that entries would be limited in order provide the best event experience possible for all players.
Players will initially be separated into a total of 11 groups. Ten groups will contain four players (40) and there will be one larger group of five players (5).
The top two players in each group will progress to the knock-out stages (22) and be joined by the best two third places from across the groups, giving 24 qualifiers in total.
The best performing eight group winners will be seeded straight through to the last 16.
The remaining 16 qualifiers will meet in a preliminary round to provide another eight players who will complete the last 16 draw.
As previously announced, the overall prize fund for the event will be £1,550 to be awarded across the tournaments as follows:
Winner: £400
Runner-Up: £200
Semi-Finalists: £100
Quarter-Finalists: £50
Last 16: £25
Winners: £100 each
Runner-ups: £50 each
Overall Highest Break: £50
